Technika tv and a samsung Dvd Player with Surround Sound.?

My Technika TV is connected to a separate samsung DVD player, so if i watch a movie on the dvd player i get the surround sound. Is there a way I can play the TV sound through the DVD surround sound, ie if I watch a movie from the TV (eg from Virgin) can I get it surround sound?

Connect optical cable or red & white cables from cable box or TV to Sound System for TV channel audio.
